Polymethyl Methacrylate (PMMA) Intraocular Lens
WHY IS AN IOL USED?
When the natural lens is removed, much of the eye's focusing ability is lost. To restore vision, the loss of focusing power is usually replaced by one of three methods. The first method is the use of glasses (spectacles). The required lens power is high, and the corrective lens is typically very thick. This option is less desirable for cataract surgery on one eye since the magnification caused by the one thick lens may hinder binocularity (use of the eyes together). The second option is to wear a contact lens. This option can be utilized for cataract surgery on one or both eyes and is the most ideal option for infants that need cataract surgery. However, handling and/or tolerating a contact lens can be difficult for some children. The third option is to place a permanent IOL inside the eye, making compliance less of an issue.

Polymethyl Methacrylate (PMMA) Intraocular Lens Design features:
1- The IOL produced by our company is made of PMMA, allowing the good flexibility of the loops, which can be bent to the optical part of the IOL, making the IOL implanted easily inside the capsular bag.
2- The 10°angle of the haptic allows the lens to have a complete contact with the posterior side of the lens capsule.
3- The thin edge of the IOL reduces the edge glare in a large degree.
4- The haptic are designed to maintain stability of lens implant in the eye, which keeps the IOL centered in the optical field.
5- The IOL produced by our company can filter the ultraviolet rays effectively, and the rate of the visible light is greater than 90%.
Polymethyl Methacrylate(PMMA) was the first material used for IOLs. It is a rigid, non-foldable, hydrophobic (water content <1%) material. The refractive index is1.49, and the usual optic diameter is 5–7 mm. PMMA offers outstanding stability and optical quality for a predictable outcome and maximum performance.
